Alternate Format Requests

The standard alternate formats are enlarged-print, Braille, and black-and-white.

  • The TIENET Request for Alternate Formats (NSA and NSE) document must be finalized by the date below for all students requiring one of these formats as a documented adaptation.
  • The Request for Alternate Formats (NSA and NSE) – User Guide can be found at:  ednet.ns.ca/inschool/.
  • PowerSchool roles that have TIENET access to create/finalize this form are Resource Teachers, Resource Teachers with Guidance Component, and School Administrators.

For information on registering students for the Nova Scotia Assessment - Read-Aloud platform, visit the NSA-RA registration page. Please note that for 2025-2026, the NSA-RA platform will not be available for English 10. Students who regularly use read-aloud audio in class and have this adaptation documented in TIENET will receive exam audio provided on USB stick. One read-aloud USB stick will be issued to each school for each administration day (two in total). This will occur automatically; no application or registration is required.

Please refer to the NSA Handbook or NSE Information Guide for information about adaptations and registration dates.

If a different alternate format is required, contact the Regional Assessment Coordinator or Student Assessment and Evaluation.

This request must be finalized in TIENET by:

  • September 12 for assessments in grade 6
  • December 19 for first semester examinations
  • April 1 for assessments in grade 3, grade 8, and second semester examinations
