Scoring and Development Opportunities

Nova Scotia teachers play a key role in developing and scoring assessments. Provincial scoring sessions ensure student work is evaluated fairly and consistently. Teachers use standardized rubrics to score student work and take part in professional learning through discussions about student work and assessment criteria. Teachers may also get involved through advisory groups or other committees.

The Nova Scotia Assessment Development Cycle shows how teachers are integral to the development, administration, scoring, and response to the results of each assessment and examination.

Consult this page for when expressions of interest open. You may also see reminders on PowerTeacher or from your Regional Assessment Coordinator. Submit your expression of interest by the deadline.

Participants are selected based on a variety of factors:

• regional representation;
• experience in past provincial scoring sessions or committees;
• current or recent teaching experience at the assessment grade level;
• diversity of experience, including African Nova Scotian, Mi'kmaq, Persons with Disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+, and Newcomer communities.
