The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an international reading assessment that is administered every five years to students in grade 4. In addition to assessing reading literacy, the PIRLS contextual reports provide information about the impact of the home environment on reading achievement, how parents can foster reading literacy, and the impact of curriculum and classroom approaches to reading instruction.
